Language note. This document was filed with the app stores in Portuguese. The English and Spanish versions are provided for convenience — where they diverge, the Portuguese text prevails.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how the Bíblia — Estude Mais app, developed by ScaleCodex, collects, uses, stores and protects user information.

By using the app, you agree to the terms of this Policy.

2. About the app

Bíblia — Estude Mais is a Bible reader for reading, study and annotation. The complete Bible text is bundled inside the app itself: the 66 books and the 31,102 verses are installed along with the app, and reading works entirely without an internet connection.

Highlights, notes, bookmarks, reading history, reading plans and reading preferences (theme, font size, line height and typeface) are written to the local storage of the device itself.

3. Use without an account

No account is needed to use the app. There is no login screen before reading, and no reading, search, highlight, note, bookmark or plan feature depends on registration.

As long as you do not sign in to an account, none of your data leaves the device. Everything you mark, write and read is stored only in the local storage of the device and is not sent to any server.

4. Data collected

Data collection only happens if you choose to create an account in the More tab of the app. The account exists to sync your personal library across devices. In that case, the following data is processed:

4.1 Registration and authentication data

  • Email address;
  • Password, stored in encrypted form by the authentication provider — the app never stores it in readable text;
  • When signing in with Google: name, email address and profile photo URL provided by your Google account;
  • Internal account identifier and session tokens needed to keep you signed in.

4.2 Synced personal library

When an account is active, the following is synced with the server:

  • Highlights — the verse reference and the colour chosen;
  • Notes — the text you wrote and the references it applies to;
  • Bookmarks — the saved references and their labels;
  • Reading history — book, chapter and date of the reading;
  • Reading position — the last point where you stopped.

This content is created by you. Notes are free text: we recommend not writing sensitive information in them that you would rather not store in the cloud.

5. How we use the data

The data is used exclusively to:

  • Create, authenticate and maintain the user account;
  • Sync highlights, notes, bookmarks, history and reading position across the devices of the same user;
  • Restore your personal library when you sign in on a new device;
  • Provide support when you get in touch;
  • Comply with legal obligations, where applicable.

Local storage remains the primary source of your data: syncing is a mirror, and reading keeps working even if the server is unavailable.

6. What is not collected

The app does not:

  • show advertising or do advertising profiling;
  • use usage analytics tools, behavioural tracking or advertising identifiers;
  • collect your location;
  • access contacts, photos, camera, microphone, files or messages on the device;
  • collect financial or payment data;
  • sell or rent personal data to third parties.

The app also does not send what you read or search to any server: searching and navigating the Bible text happen entirely inside the device.

7. App permissions

The only permission declared by the app is internet access, used only when you choose to sign in to an account and sync your personal library. Without an account, the app needs no network to work.

When you use read aloud, the text of the selected passage is handed to the speech synthesis engine installed on the device itself (for example, the Android voice service), which is what performs the reading. When you use Share, the selected verse is sent only to the app you pick on the system share sheet.

8. Data sharing

Personal data is not sold.

Information may be shared only:

  • with the cloud infrastructure provider used for authentication and syncing;
  • when required by law or by a competent authority;
  • with the user own authorisation.

9. Third-party services

The app uses the following third-party services:

  • Supabase — authentication and the database that stores the synced personal library. Only invoked when an account is active.
  • Sign in with Google — optional, for those who prefer to sign in without creating a password. From Google we receive only name, email and profile photo.
  • Google Play — distribution and updating of the app.

Those services have their own privacy policies.

10. Storage and security

Communication with the server uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS). In the database, every personal library table has row level security enabled, with a policy restricting access to the owner of the record: one user cannot read or change another user highlights, notes, bookmarks or history.

Although we follow good security practices, no system is completely immune to risk.

11. Data retention

Synced data remains stored while the account is active, or for the period needed to comply with legal obligations.

Data written locally stays on the device while the app is installed, until you erase it from within the app, clear the app data in the system settings, or uninstall the app.

12. Account and data deletion

You can erase your data at any time, on both sides:

Data on the device: highlights, notes and bookmarks can be removed individually inside the app. To erase everything at once, use Android Settings → Apps → Bíblia → Storage → Clear data, or uninstall the app.

Account and synced data: send an email to sidneydasilva537@gmail.com from the address registered in the app, with the subject “Excluir conta — Bíblia”. The account and all associated records (profile, highlights, notes, bookmarks, history and reading position) will be erased within 30 days, and you will receive confirmation by email. You may also request it via WhatsApp.

Account deletion is final and cannot be undone. Data held only on the device is not affected by account deletion — and vice versa.

13. User rights

Under applicable legislation, including the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD), the user may:

  • request access to their data;
  • request correction of incorrect information;
  • request deletion of the data;
  • request data portability, where applicable;
  • withdraw consent previously given.

Requests can be made through the channels listed in the Contact section and are answered within 30 days.

14. Audience and minimum age

Bíblia — Estude Mais is a Bible reading and study app aimed at the general public: there is no minimum age to use the app, which works fully without registration.

The app shows no advertising, does no advertising profiling and collects no data beyond what is described in this Policy, whatever the age of the user.

Children and adolescents should only create an account with the supervision of a guardian, who may request deletion of the account and data at any time through the routes described in the Account and data deletion section.

15. Bible text and licences

The bundled Bible text is the Bíblia Livre (BLIVRE), updated from the 1819 Almeida translation and distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.

All Portuguese Scripture quoted is from the Bíblia Livre (BLIVRE), Copyright © Diego Santos, Mario Sérgio and Marco Teles — February 2018. Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 Brazil licence.

The typefaces used (Inter and Source Serif 4) are distributed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The app code is original.

16. Changes to this Policy

This Policy may be updated from time to time. The most recent version will always be available at this address, which is also given on the app page on Google Play. Material changes will be signalled by the last updated date at the top of this page.
